Winner Winner

gay chickenChick-fil-A has had a checkered history regarding the LBGT community, with the latter making charges that the company engages in discrimination against them. The company has made recent firm denials to these charges  but investigations by the blog EqualityMatters reveals that the fast-food moguls are apparently funding anti-gay foundations to the tune of $1.1 million per year.

Food Dudes, you can thumb through the Bible all you want for ways to justify your bigotry, that's between you and your legal team, but quit closing the dang stores on Sunday.

Last time I checked Target gives its employees a day off. Hell, even Wal-Mart will give you the day off if they haven't intentionally locked you in for the night.

But for some strange reason many religious folk think it's a big god-damn deal that Chick-fil-A shutters its stores on Sunday in reverence to an imaginary man in the sky.

First, no one cares that they close on Sunday, even the fundamentalist's. If they did they'd be picketing Sears and McDonald's and Wally's Muffler Warehouse 24/7, threatening their owners and employees with bodily harm for insulting the Great American Deity by keeping their businesses open on the wrong day.

"The wrong day?", you ask.

Yes, because the Jewish Sabbath begins Friday night and extends until the the first three stars appear on Saturday evening.

And, uh, ahem, Jesus was Jewish. So, yeah, way to fuck it up, Xtians, closing on the wrong Sabbath and all.

And another thing, quit calling it "Sunday". That's the pagan name for that day, a mark of respect for the Sun, the real powerhouse of creation. If you're really true to your catholic school you need to call the first day of the week "The Lord's Day". Go ahead. I'll wait. This ought to be good.

Yes, Saturday is the last day of the week. C'mon, get with the program.

Besides simple nomenclature there's a logical problem with the Fifth Commandment, the one that results in the closed chicken shop, both the Exodus and Deuteronomy versions. Let her rip, God:

"But the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God; you shall not do any work—you, or your son or your daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or your donkey, or any of your livestock, or the resident alien in your towns, so that your male and female slave may rest as well as you."

See the problem? Chick-fil-A could easily be ladling out grilled lesbian chicken meat on Sunday The Lord's Day by the simple expedient of hiring married women. Wives! And believe me, we could use more people drawing down a paycheck in this economy, even if it's just a measly $80 a day.

So come on, Chicky Baby, join the twenty-first century and make a few teen-aged dreams come true. Throw your Lord's Day doors open and welcome an additional employee or three. If anything would make your god happy it's a little kindness towards people who could use a couple of extra bucks and are willing to work for it.

tangled webs by James B. StewartI was listening to the Diane Rehm Show this morning as she interviewed writer James B. Stewart. He was opining about his new book, entitled Tangled Webs: How False Statements are Undermining America: From Martha Stewart to Bernie Madoff. It includes all the big, contemporary liars, including Barry Bonds, Scooter Libby, George W. Bush and his little toady, Karl Rove, plus the two titular fibbers.

It was delightful to hear someone call out the rich and powerful for the venal liars they are and I can't wait to devour this book. If you're interested you can listen to the interview with the author here, read a sample page form the book or enjoy some follow-up questions posed via email.

Nope. No job creation here. Move along. Move along.

I'll keep adding to this list until the Republican House does something to create jobs. I unhappily predict this is gonna be one lonnnnng list.

Fox News Lies! And what lies is Fox News spewing today? They're actually claiming that solar and wind power have contributed "virtually nothing" to our energy system. So very sad.

Today's Google Chow.

Commercial poultry farms often raise hens in groups of 10,000 or more.

Under these female-only conditions they'll sometimes engage in sexual activity with one another.

So the next time you savor a chicken sandwich you need to ask yourself "Is this a homosexual chicken I'm eating?"

This message has been a public service to any fundamentalist Christian planning to eat at Chick-fil-A, the company that has no agenda against the LGBT community.
